Center for Urban Affairs & Community Services
When public organizations face policy issues that have impact on the quality of life in North Carolina, they turn to the Center for Urban Affairs & Community Services (CUACS).
As a specialized research and consulting group, CUACS works closely with state and local governments, public agencies, and non-profit organizations to evaluate programs and identify opportunities to improve effectiveness. Specifically, the group evaluates the extent to which programs reach their intended beneficiaries, how well programs are implemented, and the degree to which (and at what cost) a program achieves its intended goals.
CUACS’ professional research staff–comprised of statisticians, research and evaluation consultants, system analysts, and computer programmers–utilizes established social science research principles and procedures to conduct applied research studies of target audiences and general populations. Major research areas include: public and higher education, human services, community development, environment and natural resources, and criminal justice.
CUACS provides a comprehensive range of applied research and technical assistance services. Services provided to clients include the design, data collection, and analysis of survey data; provision of technical support in system analysis and design; hosting services; and programming. The end result: sound research to support informed public policy decisions.
