Encore Center for Lifelong Enrichment
The Encore Center for Lifelong Enrichment promotes lifelong learning through a series of noncredit short-courses, study trips and special events for adults over 50. Encore members never stop learning.
The Encore Center provides an affordable outlet for adults to take part in meaningful learning experiences. Seventy courses are available each year, with an engaging mix of subjects designed to interest people from all walks of life. The program attracts nearly 800 adults annually and provides the opportunity to interact with a collection of peers from diverse backgrounds.
Short Courses
Encore classes last six weeks. Topics include art, politics, history, finance, science, technology, literature and music. Courses are taught by University faculty, community experts, and Encore members with expertise in particular topics.
Special Events and Study Trips
Travel to some of North Carolina’s, and the world’s, most historic and culturally significant locations and experience literature, history, science and the arts firsthand. Encore members have traveled from the Biltmore to Berlin and many places in between.
Membership Benefits
Privileges include admittance to twice-monthly lectures, checkout privileges at NC State University libraries, and student discounts to campus theatre and arts events.
Other Opportunities
Encore members have the option to participate in short-term volunteer projects and pursue special interests through extracurricular groups.
The Encore Center is affiliated with the Elderhostel Institute Network, which includes more than 300 similar “lifelong learning institutes” across the United States.

Did You Know?
Encore members have belly danced in Istanbul, backpacked the Appalachian Trail, canoed the Alligator River Wildlife Refuge, and hiked in the rain forests of Costa Rica.
